Terms and Conditions
Last updated 5 November 2026. Version 1.0.
1. About these terms
These are the terms on which Legacy Locker is provided to you. They are a contract between you and us, and they matter, so we have written them in plain words and kept them as short as we could.
In these terms, "we", "us" and "our" mean Legacy Locker Pty Ltd, trading as Legacy Locker. "You" means the person who opens an account, and anyone they invite into a locker. "The service" means the website at legacylocker.me and the Legacy Locker application, including the Executor's Ledger, the Estate Discovery Agent and the Estate Readiness Score.
You agree to these terms when you open an account, accept an invitation into a locker, or use the website. If you do not agree with them, please do not use the service.
Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your personal information and your documents. It forms part of these terms, and you can read it at legacylocker.me/privacy.
These terms were last updated on 5 November 2026 (version 1.1). The current version is always at legacylocker.me/terms.
2. The short version
Every line here is explained in full further down.
- Legacy Locker files your documents, reads them, and keeps a list of what exists and where it is. It is not a lawyer, an accountant or a financial adviser, and nothing in it is advice.
- Your documents stay yours. We only use them to run your locker.
- If you stop paying, your locker goes read-only for 90 days and is then archived. It can be brought back, and a fee may apply.
- The locker reads documents with software. Software makes mistakes. Anything it is unsure of is marked, and you are responsible for checking what matters.
- You decide who else can see your locker. We are not responsible for what those people do with what they see, or for disagreements between family members.
- You must only put in documents you are entitled to put in, and you must not misuse the service.
- The Australian Consumer Law protects you, and nothing in these terms takes that away.
- Disputes go to us first, then to the courts of Western Australia.
3. What Legacy Locker is, and is not
Legacy Locker is a secure place to keep the paperwork of a family's affairs, with software that reads those papers, files them, and builds the Executor's Ledger: a list of everything that exists, where it is, and the document behind each line. It reminds you of dates that matter, answers questions from your own documents, shows how ready your papers are through the Estate Readiness Score, and can produce a statement of assets and liabilities as at any date in the past.
Legacy Locker is not advice. Nothing the service shows you is legal, financial, tax or estate-planning advice. The ledger is a list of what your documents say. The Estate Readiness Score is a measure of how complete your papers are. Neither tells you what to do about your affairs. For that, see a lawyer, an accountant or a licensed financial adviser.
Legacy Locker does not replace your documents. A will, a power of attorney or a superannuation nomination is valid because of how it was signed and witnessed, not because a copy is in your locker. Keep your originals where your lawyer advises, and tell the locker where they are.
Legacy Locker does not check your documents. We do not confirm that a document is current, correctly signed, legally effective or complete. We read what is in front of us.
Legacy Locker does not act for you. We do not contact your bank, super fund, insurer, lawyer or anyone else about your affairs. If a feature is ever added that does something on your behalf, you will ask for it each time.
4. Your account and your locker
Who can open an account. You must be 18 or over, and you must give us accurate details and keep them up to date. One person may be part of several lockers, but each locker is about one person's affairs (or a couple's).
The Owner. Every locker has one Owner: the person whose affairs the locker is about. The Owner has full access and decides who else may enter. Ownership is set when the locker is created and cannot be casually moved to someone else, so please settle who the Owner is before you create a locker. If ownership needs to change, for example because the Owner can no longer manage their affairs, contact us and we will explain what proof we need.
Creating a locker for someone else. You may create a locker about another adult, for example a parent, only with their permission. You must be able to show that permission if we ask. If you hold an enduring power of attorney for that person, that is enough; tell us, and keep a copy in the locker.
User levels. The Owner can invite other people into a locker at one of these levels:
| Level | What they can do |
|---|---|
| Owner | Everything, including inviting and removing people, changing the payment method, and closing the locker |
| Administrator | Run the locker day to day: add and delete documents, answer questions, invite Helpers and Read-only users, manage billing. Cannot remove the Owner or close the locker |
| Helper | Add documents, delete documents they added, answer questions, correct the ledger |
| Read only | Look at documents and the ledger. Cannot change anything |
Every action by every person is recorded in the locker's activity log, which cannot be edited or deleted.
Keeping your account safe. You are responsible for keeping your password private and your two-factor sign-in working. If you think someone has got into your account, change your password and tell us straight away. We are not responsible for loss caused by someone using your sign-in details because you shared them or failed to keep them safe.
Who is responsible for what people do. The Owner is responsible for choosing who to invite and at what level. We are not responsible for what an invited person does with what they see, or for disputes between people who share a locker. If the Owner asks us to remove someone, we will.
5. Free trial, prices and payment
Free trial. Most lockers start with a free period, usually 14 days, and the length is shown when you sign up. You give us a payment method at sign-up, and when the free period ends it is charged automatically unless you have cancelled. We will email you before the first charge. Some lockers start differently, for example one set up by your lawyer or accountant, or one opened under a special offer. In every case, the terms shown when the locker was created are the ones that apply.
What it costs. The price is shown clearly when you sign up, and that is the price you pay. Prices are in Australian dollars and include GST (goods and services tax). You can pay monthly or yearly. Some early customers have a special price for a fixed period, and that price is honoured for the period stated in the offer. Current prices are always at legacylocker.me/pricing.
The payment method belongs to the locker. Each locker has its own payment method, set by the Owner or an Administrator. An Administrator who looks after several lockers does not have to pay for all of them. Whoever provides the payment method agrees to the charges for that locker.
How we charge. Payments are taken by Stripe, our payment provider. We do not see or store your full card number. Your subscription renews automatically at the end of each month or year until you cancel. If a payment fails we will tell you and try again; if it still fails after 14 days the locker goes read-only, as section 6 explains.
Other fees. Handing a locker over to an executor carries a one-off handover fee. Bringing back an archived locker or a deleted document may carry a fee. The current amounts are at legacylocker.me/pricing and we will tell you the fee before we charge it.
Price changes. We may change prices. We will email you at least 30 days before a change affects you, and a change takes effect from your next renewal after that notice. If you do not accept the new price, cancel before that renewal and you will not be charged it. A price fixed for a period in an early-customer offer will not change during that period.
Refunds. You can cancel at any time and your locker stays open until the end of the period you have paid for. We do not refund the unused part of a month or a year if you simply change your mind, except that if you cancel within 14 days of your first ever charge we will refund that charge in full. You also have rights to a refund or other remedy under the Australian Consumer Law if the service is faulty or not as described (section 12), and nothing here limits those.
6. Cancelling, read-only lockers and archiving
Cancelling. The Owner or an Administrator can cancel from the locker's settings at any time. The locker stays fully open until the end of the paid period. Before it ends, download your locker if you want a copy; the export is one organised zip file with every document and the ledger.
Read-only for 90 days. When a subscription ends, or a payment keeps failing, the locker becomes read-only for 90 days. Everyone can still sign in, look at everything and download it, but nothing can be added or changed. Renewing at any point in those 90 days brings the locker fully back with nothing lost.
Archived. After 90 days the locker is archived: taken offline and stored securely. Nobody can open an archived locker. It is never destroyed.
Bringing a locker back. The Owner can ask for an archived locker to be restored at any time. We will confirm your identity first, and a recovery fee may apply, at the current rate shown at legacylocker.me/pricing. A person with legal authority, such as an executor holding a grant of probate, an attorney under an enduring power of attorney, or anyone holding a court order, can also ask, with proof. Our Privacy Policy, section 11, explains this in detail.
Closing a locker. The Owner can close a locker. We will offer the download first. A closed locker is archived in the same way as one whose subscription has ended.
7. Your documents
They are yours. You keep every right you have in the documents you put in your locker, and in the answers you give. We claim none of them.
What you allow us to do. So that we can run the service, you give us permission to store your documents, make encrypted copies for backups, read them with our software, show them to the people you have invited, and produce the ledger, score, reminders, summaries and statements from them. That permission lasts while the documents are in our systems and is for no other purpose. We never use your documents to train software, for advertising, or to sell anything.
What you promise about them. You promise that:
- You are entitled to put each document into the locker. It is yours, or you hold it lawfully for the person the locker is about, or you have their permission.
- You will not put in anything that is unlawful to hold or share, or that infringes someone else's rights.
- Where a document names other people, you have the right to store their details for the purpose of managing the estate.
If we receive a credible complaint that a document in a locker should not be there, we may make it unavailable while we look into it, and we will tell the Owner.
Deleting. Any user with the right level can delete a document. It leaves the locker and the ledger, and the deletion is recorded in the activity log. An encrypted copy is kept, and can be restored on request, as the Privacy Policy explains. A fee may apply.
Downloading. The Owner, and anyone the Owner allows, can download the whole locker at any time as one organised zip file. You are free to keep that copy anywhere you like; once it has left our systems, its safety is up to you.
Our access. Our staff cannot browse your locker. The only times a member of our team looks inside are when you ask us for help with a specific problem and agree, or when we are investigating a security incident. Every such access is logged and shown to you.
8. How the locker reads documents, and its limits
Legacy Locker reads your documents with artificial intelligence (AI) software that runs privately on our own servers. The Privacy Policy, section 6, explains how. This section explains what that software can and cannot promise.
It will sometimes be wrong. The software reads scanned papers, photographs and emails, and it makes mistakes: a figure misread, a date missed, two accounts confused. We have built it to say when it is unsure rather than to guess, and every line in the ledger shows the document it came from so you can check. But you must check. Do not rely on a ledger line, a reminder, a score or an answer for any decision that matters without looking at the document itself.
It only knows what you have given it. The ledger lists what is in your locker. If a document is missing, the asset it describes is missing from the ledger. The Estate Readiness Score measures how complete and current your papers are against a general list of what estates usually hold; it does not know about anything you have not mentioned, and a high score does not mean nothing has been left out.
Statements are reconstructions. A statement of assets and liabilities as at a past date is built from the documents in the locker that were current on that date. It is only as complete and accurate as those documents. It is not an audited statement and is not a substitute for one.
Reminders are a help, not a guarantee. We send reminders based on dates the software has read. We may miss one, or send one for a date that has changed. Missing a renewal, a nomination deadline or any other date remains your responsibility.
Questions are answered from your documents. When the locker answers a question, it answers from your own papers and quotes its source. It is not giving advice, and it has no knowledge of the law or of your circumstances beyond what the documents say.
10. Professional accounts
Estate lawyers, accountants and other professionals may use Legacy Locker to organise their clients' papers. If you do:
- You must have your client's permission to create and manage a locker in their name, and you must be able to show it if asked.
- The client remains the Owner of the locker unless the client agrees otherwise in writing. Your firm holds Administrator access.
- You are responsible for everyone at your firm who uses the service under your account, and for removing their access when they leave.
- Your own professional, legal and confidentiality duties to your client continue to apply, and these terms do not change them.
- We will enter into a separate data-handling agreement with your firm on request, and where the law requires one.
- Per-estate pricing for professional accounts is shown at legacylocker.me/pricing, and the terms in section 5 apply to it.
Legacy Locker provides the tools. The professional advice, and the responsibility for it, remain with you.
11. Acceptable use
You must not:
- Put documents into a locker that you have no right to hold or share, or that belong to someone who has not agreed.
- Use the service for any unlawful purpose, including to conceal assets, deceive a court, a beneficiary or a creditor, or evade tax.
- Upload anything containing malware, or anything designed to interfere with the service or with other people's lockers.
- Try to get into any locker or account that is not yours, or to get around our security, or to test our security without our written permission.
- Copy, scrape, reverse-engineer or resell the service or any part of it, or use automated tools to access it except as we allow.
- Share your sign-in details with anyone, or let anyone else use your account.
- Harass, threaten or deceive other people through the service, or impersonate anyone.
If you break these rules we may suspend or close your access (section 16). Where a breach is serious or involves a crime, we may report it.
12. Our promises, and their limits
What we promise. We will provide the service with reasonable care and skill. We will keep your documents encrypted, as the Privacy Policy describes. We will keep backups. We will aim to keep the service available at all times, and we will give notice of planned maintenance where we can.
What we cannot promise. No online service is available every minute. The service may be interrupted by maintenance, by faults, or by events outside our control such as a failure at our hosting provider or an internet outage. The software that reads documents will sometimes be wrong (section 8). We do not promise that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that the ledger will be complete.
Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law. If you are a consumer under the Australian Consumer Law, our services come with guarantees that cannot be excluded: among them, that they will be provided with due care and skill, be fit for the purpose we have said they are for, and be delivered within a reasonable time. If we fail a guarantee, you are entitled to the remedies that law gives you, which may include having the problem fixed, a refund, or compensation for reasonably foreseeable loss. Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies those rights.
Limits on our liability. To the extent the law allows us to limit our liability, and subject always to the paragraph above:
- Our total liability to you for all claims arising out of the service in any 12-month period is limited to the amount you paid us for the service in that period, or A$500, whichever is greater.
- We are not liable for loss that was not reasonably foreseeable, or for loss of profit, loss of business, or loss that arises because of a decision you or anyone else made in reliance on the ledger, a score, a reminder, a statement or an answer without checking the underlying document.
- We are not liable for loss caused by your breach of these terms, by someone you invited into your locker, by your failure to keep your sign-in details safe, or by documents you failed to put in or keep up to date.
- Where the law lets us limit our liability for a failure of a consumer guarantee to supplying the service again or paying the cost of having it supplied again, our liability is limited to that.
Your liability to us. You are responsible for loss we suffer because you broke these terms, for example because you put in documents you had no right to, or used the service unlawfully. You are not responsible for loss caused by our own breach or negligence.
13. Intellectual property
The service, including its software, design, text, and the way the Estate Discovery Agent reads documents and the Estate Readiness Score is worked out, belongs to us or to the companies we license it from. Legacy Locker, Executor's Ledger, Estate Discovery Agent and Estate Readiness Score are our trade marks. You may use the service for its intended purpose while you have an account, and you may not copy it, build a competing product from it, or use our names or marks without our written permission.
Your documents and the ledger built from them are yours (section 7). The general lists and rules the software uses to work out what an estate usually holds are ours, and remain ours even though they are used to build your ledger.
If you send us feedback or suggestions, we may use them to improve the service without owing you anything, and without this giving you any rights in what we build.
14. Privacy
How we collect, store, use and share your personal information and your documents is set out in our Privacy Policy at legacylocker.me/privacy. It forms part of these terms. In short: your documents are stored encrypted, read by private software that keeps nothing, never sold or used for advertising, and never shown to anyone you have not authorised. If these terms and the Privacy Policy ever say different things about personal information, the Privacy Policy wins.
15. Changes to the service and to these terms
Changes to the service. We improve Legacy Locker all the time, and we may add, change or remove features. If we remove a feature you rely on, we will give you at least 30 days' notice by email. We will not remove your ability to download your locker.
Changes to these terms. We may change these terms. Small changes, such as clearer wording or a new feature described, take effect when posted at legacylocker.me/terms with a new date and version number. Any change that reduces your rights, increases your obligations, or changes what you pay will be emailed to the Owner and Administrators of every locker at least 30 days before it takes effect. If you do not agree, you may cancel before that date and the change will not apply to you. Continuing to use the service after the date means you accept the change. Earlier versions are kept and you can ask us for any of them.
16. Ending the agreement
By you. Cancel or close your locker at any time, as section 6 explains.
By us. We may suspend or close your access if you seriously breach these terms, if you use the service unlawfully, if a payment remains unpaid after the notices in section 5, or if we are required to by law. Except where the breach is serious or the law prevents it, we will warn you first and give you a chance to put it right. If we close your access, the locker is archived in the same way as a closed locker, and the Owner can still download it before archiving unless the law prevents us from allowing that.
If we ever stop the service. If Legacy Locker is ever to be shut down, we will give every Owner and Administrator at least 90 days' notice by email, keep the download working for the whole of that period, and refund any part of a yearly subscription that falls after the closing date. If the service passes to a new owner instead, section 8 of the Privacy Policy applies and your documents move only on terms at least as protective as these.
What survives. Sections 7 (your documents), 12 (our promises and their limits), 13 (intellectual property), 17 (disputes) and 18 (general) continue to apply after the agreement ends, as does the Privacy Policy for as long as we hold anything of yours.
17. Disputes and governing law
If you have a problem with the service, tell us first. Email privacy@legacylocker.me for privacy matters or info@legacylocker.me for anything else. We will confirm receipt within five business days and give you a written answer within 30 days. Most problems are sorted out this way.
If we cannot resolve it between us, either of us may suggest mediation before going further, and we will share the cost of a mediator equally if you agree to that.
These terms are governed by the laws of Western Australia and the Commonwealth of Australia. Any court case about them is to be brought in the courts of Western Australia, and both of us accept the jurisdiction of those courts. Nothing in this section stops you from using a consumer tribunal or ombudsman that the law makes available to you.
18. General
- The whole agreement. These terms, the Privacy Policy and the price and offer shown to you at sign-up are the whole agreement between us about the service. They replace anything said or written before.
- If part of these terms cannot be enforced, that part is removed or read down as far as needed, and the rest continues to apply.
- If we do not enforce a term on one occasion, we can still enforce it later.
- You cannot transfer your account or your rights under these terms to anyone else, except that locker ownership can change in the way described in section 4. We may transfer our rights and obligations to a new owner of the business, as section 16 explains.
- Notices. We will send notices to the email address on your account, so keep it current. You can send notices to us at the addresses in section 19.
- Events outside our control. Neither of us is responsible for failing to do something these terms require if that failure is caused by something outside our reasonable control, such as a natural disaster, a widespread internet outage, or a government order, as long as we each do what we reasonably can to carry on.
19. How to contact us
